Money Monday – Snow! Or Snow?

Pre-Snow

With the east coast about to suffer through our first major storm of the current winter season, I wanted to say I hope you are staying safe with loved ones.  Do what you need to do to stock up for a few days.  It always feels like you never know what to get excess of but whatever you consider to be the basics, stock up on that.  My good rule of thumb is gas for the car, paper goods, canned goods, frozen meat, dried pasta, and veggies.  That type of food can go a long way in various mixtures to create yummy cost effective meals that will last for a few days.  Of course, movies, or these days start adding quite a few things to your Netflix queue.  And for some of you, definitely alcohol.

Remember to stay warm, and check on elderly neighbors if you have any.  If you have neighbors close by, you can always do a potluck dinner.  That’s always a fun way to socialize and save on expenses when it comes to making a hearty meal.

Stay safe out there!

Thankful Thursdays – Distributing Dignity

There are many times we have ran out of the house and forgot to grab a few extra pads or tampons, but are fortunate enough to either be able to afford to run into any store and buy a new pack or ask a friend to borrow one.  What about the other women who can’t?  It never occurred to me that homeless women did not have adequate access to what I think a lot of us take for granted – bras, pads and tampons.

We often think if we donate enough old clothes, they should be fine right?  Maybe not.

I stumbled upon an article in Huffington Post  about this topic, and saw a local charity gathers feminine products, also including new bras with tags, and delivers them to homeless shelters in need.  I am so moved by this I want to have my own party to gather items as well to help.  If you are as sick as I am of all those invites to parties where one friend is now selling yet another fad product, put the money you were going to waste to good use.  Help out a woman that is in need.

The name of the charity in my area is Distributing Dignity.  On their site you can make donations as well, or if you are not local and feel inspired, contact local shelters and ask if they are in need of the same products.  I’m sure they will be very grateful to accept similar items as well.  Every little bit helps!

Tasty Tuesdays – Launching Flavor

FoodMontage

We are adding a new category here at Just Trim The Ends.  There are many flavors in life and we want to showcase them each week with various meals, drinks, and beyond.  We all know food goes through trends just like fashion and it’s a good reminder of how to stay healthy even when we cheat.  There are times we see a picture of a dish online or in a restaurant and try to recreate it but it never seems to quite come out the same way or taste the same way.  A lot of the times most restaurants add more salt and butter than necessary which equals more flavor to us.  It may taste great but it may be too much for our diets or lifestyles.

Money Monday – Are You Keeping the Change?

Money Tree

We have all heard of extended friends, family or coworkers that have taken vacations with the change they collect in a jar.  In fact, most people are moving away from paying in cash all together, so we probably haven’t had change jingling around in quite a while.  Possibly the only time was when we had to request a new bank card and was forced to use cash for a week or two.  I know it can seem daunting to walk around with cash these days.  If you are robbed, it’s much easier to make one call to the bank or credit union and alert them then wait for a new card versus losing all the money you were carrying in one swoop.  But why not start small?  Keep a smaller amount on you in an effort to start accumulate change.  Believe it or not, you will be surprised at how much change you end up with at the end of the week, or end of the month.  This habit will also help you save more of your money.  If you physically have to remember, and count out either exact change you will know exactly how much you have spent.  You won’t have to play the, “Am I going to overdraft?” game and either run home or feverishly check your account online through your phone.

It’s worth a shot, right?

Instead of scrolling through various social media sites looking for a savings solution or starting a savings plan in January only to give up by the end of February, start small and build on your savings goals.  You will be very surprised at the results by even Memorial Day or your Summer Vacation, and create a new positive habit for yourself!

New in box, heats up to 428F (220C).  It’s a great product but it’s not hot enough for me.  This is a great product for softer hair.  It is ceramic, red in colo, and heats up fast.  It does have an on/off switch and temperature control.  It would make a great gift!  Don’t delay, I’m sure it will be gone by the end of the weekend, if not today!
