Whoa There 2018!

2018

Ah, welcome to the world where everything can be completed by the touch or voice command of an app.  We’re only 33 years(ish) from Orsen Wells’ prediction of flying cars and a society under the lock and key of a Big Brother figure.  Pretty cool, no?

Once we get past the shaking and crying that is reality and settle into a fresh new year, the resolutions kick into high gear and usually by the end of January we leave them in the junk drawer with all the other odds and ends we have been meaning to figure out.

My doctor asked me the other day what my plan was for the year and I had no idea what to tell her.  I’m hyper ambitious, always have a million to-do lists going at all times not only for myself but others in my life – so for me to not be able to give an answer stumped even me.

Do I want to lose weight?  I really don’t care if I do anymore.  I want to be healthy but I really don’t care what number is on the scale.  I left that prison years ago.  What are some of the other bullshit resolutions we make up each year?  Stop smoking? Meet the right partner? Take that trip? Whatever we can think of – I’m sure we all make the same fairy tale requests of ourselves.

I hope this year you give yourself a break.  Give yourself time to heal – time to laugh – time to love yourself – time to love life – time to enjoy life!  There are so many things to discover that none of us should lock ourselves away anymore.

While driving home from the appointment, I really gave 2018 some thought and if I could come up with an answer for what I want to do this year.  I came up with a short list that includes making time for my son and putting myself first.  I tend to lose myself in work and other various responsibilities that come with life.  It’s easy to keep your head down then half the year is gone and you wonder why Summer came early and where you put your bikinis (YES A BIKINI – IF YOU WANT TO WEAR ONE, WEAR IT).

I also believe in the saying: speaking power over your life.  I’m not talking about the preachy over the top version of this saying but more speaking realities in your life.  I believe in vision boards – whether you have one at home or you utilize Pinterest – as a way to keep yourself on track.  I’m actually a huge fan of Pinterest.  Nope, I don’t get into anything DIY, but I appreciate being able to put all of my ideas across the many interests in my life some place and it’s organized.  I usually use Pinterest as a cloud like service.  I don’t have to waste space on my phone and it’s accessible (just about) anywhere and it’s free!

So, what’s the deal with 2018?  Will anything get accomplished before we’re worrying about 2019?  If it does, great!  If it doesn’t, I will embrace my failures and keep moving forward because that’s all I can do.  That’s all we can do.  Thank life for the opportunity to even try because some people don’t even have that option.

  1. Hello ,

I saw your tweet about animals and thought I will check your website. I like it!

I love pets. I have two beautiful thai cats called Tammy(female) and Yommo(male). Yommo is 1 year older than Tommy. He acts like a bigger brother for her. 🙂
I have even created an Instagram account for them ( https://www.instagram.com/tayo_home/ ) and probably soon they will have more followers than me (kinda funny).

I have subscribed to your newsletter. 🙂

Keep up the good work on your blog.

    Regards
