Shot in the Dark

Here we are, it’s the evening and I’m freshly exfoliated and lotioned. The only thing missing is a chilled glass of chardonnay and some snacks. While I’m awaiting President Biden to make his speech, I wanted to take a moment and share my experience with getting the COVID Vaccine.

Today was the big day for my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine! I was giddy (actually giddy) while chatting with the wonderful pharmacist who performed my shot. We chatted about potential travel plans this summer and frankly how awesome it was that more people are getting vaccinated. I know some have had relatively negative side effects but the most I’ve had to deal with was being tired and my arm hurting. I made sure to drink plenty of water and gatorade before and after each shot and fit a nap into my schedule to help sleep off the fatigue.

I scheduled both doses of the vaccine through my local CVS and was very pleased with their process. It was quick and simple to schedule and to receive both doses. I highly encourage you to check with your local CVS to see if they have vaccine appointments available. We can work together to help get this pandemic under control!

If you or your loved one have had trouble getting scheduled or are homebound, there are agencies working to get those people vaccinated safely in their home. I would start by asking your local health department about programs if you don’t have a Primary Care Physician. If you can help your neighbors get signed up, please do so!

Even though I’ve had both Pfizer shots, it will still take about two weeks to become fully vaccinated and I do plan to continue wearing my two masks indefinitely while out in crowds and when around groups of people. This past year has taught me that masks are effective and vital to combatting other illnesses. I usually have to deal with seasonal allergies but since wearing the masks, I haven’t had any issues. It’s a personal decision I am making for myself.

Please take care of yourself. Take care of your loved ones. Take care of those that are hard to love. This pandemic has brought out the worst in a lot of us.
